Words Just Ain't Gonna Cut It

That is what we use though.

Some are more blessed at it than others.

One person wrote and set to music the words " to get you gotta give, you gottta live and let live ".

Today though we celebrate getting that which we give nothing for.  That which we do not deserve.  Forgiveness of our deepest, darkest thoughts.  There is not a thought police except for us knowing ourselves.  Today though the As A Man Thinketh is celebrated in forgiveness of each of us having within us the evil that is as bad as the worst evil doer we can imagine.  Having been forgiven we are free to also give.  That which we were freely given we may pass on to others.

Small mountains of physical gifts have begun to appear in this little house.  They represent for me wonderful people that love me as I am though they are always letting me know how I can be better.

Merry Christmas Eve

Caffeine, Comfort Zone, Jumble or Jambalaya

The only Constant Is Change

I am here but even who I am changes in some way at various rates.  I have this thought that every seven years all of my body has been replaced.  So how do I think I remember anything?  Time was created so does any of this have meaning beyond my perception?

Taz and I began the day on the porch.  Picture from past.

Not on the porch.  Then I decided I would like to get out and find breakfast.  I think I know that one neighborhood place is closed Sundays.

As you can see it is not one where a cow tryies to get us to eat chicken.  We do not have one of those over here.  I am trying not to cross freeways.

There are several sit down places where I could go and order and wait.  Not what I want to do.  There are several food trucks, food buses or food stands that serve breakfast but do not open until nine or ten in the morning.

So Taz temp replacement is put into the game.

This was real time following breakfast.

Meals are sometimes my responsibility but more often not.  The family member that does this more often has had two recent hospital stays.  During one of those my choice in a hospital cafeteria was jambalaya.  Today I choose not to even cross a major street.  I go a block East of Edison and turn South to Patton where I turn West.  I think I know they are open but by protestant church times the streets and lots parking places are few.  At 7ish though the lots and street parking is being used but the back lot is empty except now me.

Coming around the side.

Rib Tips In Houston

This blog post was first posted a few years back.  I am now top blogging because I stumbled on Ray's which is also on twitter and Facebook.  I thought I had blogged about Ray's but now see that I had not.  I will have to circle back and eat some more as well as their great brisket and sausage as well as talk to him about his rib tips which are great but maybe kind of Texan. < grin > That is not a bad thing for me.

Being a native Houstonian and my attempts to smoke a brisket in a Chicago apartment building courtyard bringing folks wondering if they needed to evacuate while one lectured me on the dangers of meat so I packed it in but on the upvote of Joe Germuska, the head of the Knight lab in the Medil Schol of Journalism at Northwestern in Evanston Illinois I began a blog on Brisket in Chicago. No commercialization, just me going out in Chicago looking for the closest thing to my own brisket I could find. I only wrote about brisket and tacos if I enjoyed what I ate.

While in Chicago the go to foods for folks are samiches which means Italian Beef and of course Ruebens made from pastrami and of course Saint Patty's day as well as Irish influence means Corned Beef so getting a brisket to smoke in the Chicagoland area is an accomplishment. Good food though in Chicago also includes Rib Tips. Now y'all will likely recognize Sweet Baby Ray in the picture and in this old blog post and have likely had his sauce. He is just a regular guy who really loves the BBQ community and also has a chain of places that make great Rib Tips.

I am busy with my Tuesday Hack Nights over at Castillo

but those folks have to eat so going out to get a bucket of Rib Tips for Tuesday night because even For Good Civic Hackers have to eat and then blogging about it does not take much time but I will need some recommendations.

Sweets by Belen and Surya India

OK, I am writing, I am writing!  Maniacal laughter as in the song.  So Monday the Mayor was having a presser to announce National Small Business Week.  One of the small business owners that spoke was Belen of Sweets by Belen   So being the logistical genius that I am Tuesday about noon and a new Facebook friends post about Surya India also in my brain I decided I could leave the Northside, go to MY favorite Indian restaurant close to Hillcroft and Westpark, the bank on Yale, the cleaners by N. Main and order cards next door to the cleaners and be back home to catch the Red line to make a public comment to Council at City Hall at three.  I still need to order business cards.  As I circled our inner loop my mind went back to Belen and the Mayor saying Hillcroft and 59 several times so since that is a good exit to get where I was going and I had looked at her web site I decided maybe some empanadas and sweets were a good idea as well.  The person at the counter and Belen were both very gracious as I slaughtered the names of foods and mistook the Peruvian word for combo as a food I might want to try.  It turned out my place is closed on Tuesday and with one Alfajor mini making me feel like an alpha I decided to try this new place, Surya India.  Seven hundred block of Durham, seven hundred block of Durham, oops, passed it.  Over to Shepherd and back up then as I turned back towards Durham with the window down my nose told me I would not be disappointed.

So there are the empanadas which are bigger than they look on the menu and packed with their fillings.

Her shop is beautiful

She is a beautiful spirit and she has delicious cheesecake.

So now with these wonderful goodies we move on.

To tasty vegetable samosas, a lamb curry and saag paneer from Surya India

And they all eventually end up in the same place.
